Tour Description
We commence our tour by departing from the central accommodations. Our journey takes us 16 km beyond the city, traversing the distinctive landscape offered by National Route No. 3 as we head towards the winter centers.
The winter center for this excursion is named Wolf Valley, renowned because its owner participated in the famous dog sled race, the Iditarod in Alaska. Upon returning, he brought back wolves to crossbreed with his dogs, enhancing the races, hence the origin of their name.
Following a concise explanation about Siberian - Husky and Alaskan - Husky dogs and the technical and safety briefing regarding bicycles, we get ready to embark on our journey with these electric bikes.
The adventure spans 10 km over snowy and icy terrain, crossing frozen waterways and enjoying breathtaking views throughout the ride.
This experience highlights the life and activities of beavers, a non-native species introduced to Tierra del Fuego in 1946. It exemplifies how human intervention can profoundly alter biodiversity and natural processes, even in secluded regions. Beavers are nature's engineers, significantly impacting resource availability for other species by inducing substantial ecosystem changes.
The journey covers approximately 4 km in search of a chain of 4 beaver colonies, some of which are old and inactive while others are currently operational. Here, you can witness the remarkable work of these animals with their dams and their impact on the Fuegian forests.
